Adriana Devers

Author, speaker, performer. Born and raised in the Dominican Republic. At 13 migrated with her parents to the United States, where she completed her high school years in Brentwood, N.Y. Graduated from Stony Brook University in Spanish Language and Literature. Received her Master’s degree in Liberal Studies in 2009. Worked 14 years in the Long Island public school system, where she focused in displaying the many contributions of the Hispanic/Latino community in our society. Hosting Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrations and World Language Month Events, among other cultural festivities, recognizing  the importance of world languages in student development.

  • Founder of the Hispanic Heritage Club, extracurricular activity that focuses on promoting cultural appreciation and awareness.
  • Founder of the online project @cuentosdetriadas, which showcases life experiences through videos, using poetry and imagery as the main tool.
  • Westbury Arts member and contributor of yearly event Solo Para Locos Arts Festival.
  • Guest performer for the Thespian Theater show “Horizons of Hope” on domestic violence, New York City and Queens (2011). Secondary role in the play “Married in the suburbs” by producer Howard Beckerman, Patchogue N.Y. (2011).

Creator of “Mochilas Alegres/Backpacks of Joy” yearly fundraiser event to collect backpacks and school supplies for children in need in Dominican Republic and other Latin American countries.

Works published: poem “la negra del batey” in the anthology Mujeres de Palabra, Poética y Antología (2010), poetry book Huellas de una Memoria Perdida(2008); short story book Mi vida de cuento en cuento(2018), which presents the vulnerability of life through a variety of topics, such as immigration, mental illness and cultural identity, and bilingual children’s book Mi Chiquitica en Luna Llena My Little One in Full Moon(2018) a magical poem with illustrations by artist Vanessa Balleza. With this last titled the author has been engaged in numerous cultural events in the area, giving presentations in Long Island schools and reading at local Daycare centers, where she believes literacy has to be actively promoted.
